About h5

h5 denotes a shaft tolerance zone with zero line deviation in the ISO 286 system. It is used in H6/h5 (Precision parts located by the fit alone and assembled by hand, e.g. gauges and instrument components.) and G6/h5 (Shaft-basis equivalent of H6/g5, built around a ground reference shaft rather than a reamed hole: gauge blocks, instrument slides, precision jig components.).

At Ø25 mm h5 is 0 / −0.009 mm, i.e. 24.991 to 25.000 mm.

How the limits are calculated

h5 uses grade IT5 (a standard tolerance of 9 µm at 18–30 mm). Fundamental deviation: es = 0: the tolerance zone sits entirely below the nominal size, and IT5 sets its width. See the fundamental deviation table for every letter. Values per ISO 286-1:2010.
